Pyon Anime and Gaming
A friendly place for anime, gaming and chocolate!
Pyon Projects
As part of our mission to give back to the fandom community of Western Australia that inspired us and helped us start Pyon Anime and Gaming in the first place, and for all those people who have supported and continue to support us, we've started a few projects which we think will help the WA fandom community. Below are some of the projects we've started on:
The Fandom Support Project
The fandom support project is our first big step to helping the community in which Pyon Anime and Gaming was born in: WA Fandom. This project aims at helping local artists, writers, crafters, costumers and groups to get out there and be seen. Artists, writers, crafters and costumers can put their work up for sale or display at Pyon’s stalls for $2 per batch of items. All profits from the sales of those items go back to the artist, writer, crafter or costumers who put up the items. In other words, for $2 we’ll sell your items for you.
Pyon is also dedicated to helping fandom groups, organisations and conventions related to the anime, gaming, and science fiction communities. We’ve been running for over a year, so we've gained valuable knowledge and experience as well as advice from other great people who've helped us, and we’d like to pass that on. Whether it be advice, prizes, or any of our services that is needed, we're here to help.
Some of our services include console hiring (see our gaming library project), our traveling cafe (specialising in deluxe hot chocolates, milkshakes and slushy drinks), our anime and gaming merchandise stall, and the Pyon staff as coordinators or volunteers at other events.
We aim to help promote local groups, clubs, organisations, and their events, through our online groups and by word-of-mouth at our own events.
Our online store (once it's up) will also have advertising space available for a flat $2 a month for artists, writers, crafters, groups, events, clubs, conventions and organisations or free advertising on posts related to events that Pyon will be attending.
Pyon's current biggest promoting events and fundraisers are our gaming nights, which so far have an average attendance of 38 people. Other events we will be running soon are: Hot Chocolate Night, Pyon dinner, screenings and more gaming nights.
If you're interested in the fandom support project and want to be a part of it, feel free to contact us. Feedback and suggestions are very welcome!
The Gaming Library Project
The Gaming Library Project is a culmination of Pyon's efforts to create and consolidate a repository of current and refurbished classic gaming consoles and a wide selection of games to go with it, which we intend to be a hirable resource for other fandom groups and organisations. The idea of this project is for us to maintain the consoles and keep adding more games to the library, while others can hire the gaming library for short periods, maybe at their own events, at a cost far below the costs involved in acquiring a similar collection. The Gaming Library Project is also meant for those who wish to try out games and consoles they would not have had a chance to play with otherwise.
We are aiming to eventually have one of every type of console (including the controllers and accessories to go with them) and one of the largest game libraries in Western Australia. Currently the gaming library has: a Playstation 3, a Playstation 2, an Xbox 360, a Wii, an N64, and a Super NES. We are currently trying to repair more retro consoles and modify them to be compatible with high-definition screens. The game library, at last inventory, contains over 200+ games, with more being added all the time. We are constantly updating the library with a focus on games and consoles that are specifically requested. If you have a request for a game you don’t think we have yet, or feel we should get, let us know! We'll add it to the list of games we're planning to add to the game library.
Pyon currently offers a free demonstration of our Gaming Library Project when we run stalls at events, whether our own, or if our stall appears at other events and we are given permission to bring the gaming library. If anyone is interested in hiring the gaming library, hiring costs will vary depending on what services are required and what consoles are needed. Please get in contact with us to arrange a quote.
If you are interested in contributing towards the Gaming Library Project - whether by donating games or consoles you don't need anymore, or donating funds to put towards acquiring more games and consoles - please get in contact with us! We'd love to hear from you.
There are more projects to come, so keep an eye on this page for new developments. If you have ideas for more projects that you feel Pyon should take part in or start, do contact us and tell us all about it.
